Glentunnel to Methven:

My heart is full today! My friend, my guardian angel, Chris has yet again come through! I biked past the world famous Sheffield pie shop yesterday, so this morning he brought me a Venison and Whisky Relish pie! It was very very good!

He also brought me a beef roll and a blueberry pie (my favorite non-meat pie)! And . . . a Christmas present!!! I’m not allowed to open it until Christmas, I am very excited!

We then proceeded to ride some premium gravel down to the incredible Rakaia Gorge.

I planned to stop in Methven for the hot pools and then keep going, but I got way too comfortable and decided to camp.

Yesterday I tried to make some potato latkes (deep fried potatoe pancakes) for a little late hannukah celebration with all butter knife, a pot, and canola spread- it went horribly wrong. But today, I walk into the camp kitchen and there are potatoes, oil, salt and pepper up for grabs and a grater!! The camp host gifts me an egg and a 1/4 cup of flour and I run to the store for an onion and some apple sauce!

The latkes came out great and I ate them while watching a dvd of “Miracle on 34th Street” that I found for truly multicultural solo holiday celebration!

And tonight I go to bed with a full heart, and a full belly!
